How to Care for Your Crystal Bonsai

Your Arborlith arrives as a finished, one-of-one composition. Crystals are more durable than they look, but a little care keeps them bright, clean, and beautiful for years — and because the piece is meant to live with you, we want it to age well.

This care guide covers everything: cleaning, placement, handling, and the small rituals that keep the piece feeling alive.

Gentle cleaning, done rarely

Crystals respond badly to harsh chemicals and to too-frequent handling. For everyday maintenance:

  • Dust gently with a soft, dry brush (a clean makeup brush or soft paintbrush works perfectly).
  • For a deeper clean, wipe with a barely-damp microfibre cloth — then dry immediately.
  • Avoid submerging the piece in water unless it is specifically designed as a water-safe tumbler stone. Many crystals (such as selenite and some amethyst) can be sensitive to moisture, and the wire and base are best kept dry.
  • Never use soaps, detergents, or abrasive cleaners on the stone.

Where to place it

Placement is where you can change how the piece looks every day without touching it:

  • Near natural light — indirect light lets the internal structure of the crystal glow. Avoid prolonged strong, direct sun, which can fade some coloured stones over time.
  • A stable, level surface — the dish should sit flat so the composition does not tilt or stress the base.
  • Away from heat and humidity — keep it off window sills above radiators and out of steamy bathrooms.

Handling with intention

We encourage you to touch and move your bonsai — it is not a museum piece. The ritual of caring for it is part of its meaning. Two gentle notes:

  • Lift the piece by the base or the strongest part of the trunk, never by a single thin branch.
  • Handle crystals with dry hands; natural skin oils dull the surface and leave a film.

If a stone loosens

Occasionally, with a lot of handling, a crystal may loosen in its setting. This is normal and easy to fix — a tiny dab of clear jewellery-grade glue on the contact point will hold it securely again. If you would rather we do it, message us on WhatsApp and we will talk you through it.

The care that matters most

After cleaning and placement, the last step is the simplest and the most important: spend a few seconds with it now and then. Set an intention at the window, turn it to catch the light, and let it remind you of why you grew it.

Your Arborlith was grown around your story — a little care keeps the story in the stone.
